Bad Boys Gregory Blair & Bill Oberst Jr. may team up again to go “Straying” into new territory.

Feb. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Quadruple threat Gregory Blair (actor, writer, director and producer) is rumored to once again be teaming up with horror film star favorite Bill Oberst, Jr. to create THE STRAYING, a film that combines normally disparate genres into a film Blair hopes will both thrill and challenge audiences with a unique and uncharted experience.

“It’s a very human story of two characters that aren’t entirely human. As such, it takes elements from several genres and twists them in non-traditional avenues,” says Blair, who penned the script. “The two creatures are outcasts because of how they look and behave at times which makes it a character drama as much as a monster movie because it reveals as much about what it is to be human as it does what is it to be a monster.”

In THE STRAYING, a werewolf escaping capture finds more than shelter in the world of a reclusive vampire whose existence he may very well destroy.  It pits a man of action and passion against a man of thought and reason and they try to meet in the middle before disaster falls upon them.   True to the horror genre, the story includes werewolf transformations, vampire attacks, chases, dungeons and deaths…but it also allows for mining provocative questions such as what defines a monster, when is killing justified and whether unconditional love is worth any price.

“It’s definitely a thinking person’s horror film—if we’re going to classify it as a horror film,” Blair says, “because fangs, blood and bodies aside, it’s a story about acceptance, love and prejudice.  These two misfits come together and, as they learn from each other about what makes life worth living, so can the audience.  The monsters’ fight against judgment and vilification speaks to all forms of prejudice: ageism, racism, lookism, homophobia, etc.  So the film is fraught with food for thought and, I hope, will engender dialogue as well as delight.”

The script is a dream come true for both Bill Oberst Jr. who is in talks to bring his celebrated intensity to the pivotal role of the hunted werewolf, Clive, and for Blair who is considering stepping in as the mysterious vampire Orin. Blair reveals that “…it’s fantastic to talk with Bill about the project, because we’re obviously both so eager to play these creatures who conflict and then converge and then conflict again.  The goal now is to find a producing team and a director who will be as passionate about the material and the kind of unique film it can be.”
